Word Order (SOV)

Uzbek follows Subject-Object-Verb word order. Unlike English (SVO), the verb always comes at the end of the sentence.

Basic Pattern

In English you say "I read a book" (Subject-Verb-Object). In Uzbek, the order is Subject-Object-Verb:

Men kitob o'qiyman.
I read a book.
Literal: I — book — read
U choy ichadi.
He/She drinks tea.
Literal: He/She — tea — drinks
Biz maktabga boramiz.
We go to school.
Literal: We — to school — go

Questions

In questions, the word order stays the same — just add a question word or the question suffix -mi:

Siz nima ichaysiz?
What do you drink?
Literal: You — what — drink?
U talabami?
Is he/she a student?
Literal: He/She — student-?
